The Polish School of Posters: In a Broader Cultural and Historical Context

Autor: Mateusz M. Bieczyński
Tłumaczenie: Mateusz M. Bieczyński
Krótki opis produktu:

The book  presents a comprehensive account of the history of posters, with particular emphasis on the place of Polish posters within the complex landscape of artistic and design transformations from the nineteenth century to the end of the twentieth century. It is the first monograph on the Polish publishing market to examine the poster’s origins, evolution and present condition in relation to the wider context of art. The author offers an exceptionally concise yet richly detailed discussion of the process of the poster’s so-called autonomisation—its transition from a purely utilitarian function to an artistic one. The book contains numerous colour illustrations (nearly forty) showcasing the works of leading Polish and international poster artists. Across 312 pages, the author shares a range of new observations concerning social, political and artistic posters—a medium situated precisely at the intersection of art and graphic design.
